It's time to start exploring the neighborhood! While you may recognize landmarks near 520 Park , you may not realize all the incredible amenities and opportunities these sites have to offer. Whether you're new to the neighborhood or a seasoned, city-dwelling veteran, we'll make sure you know about all the greatest aspects of Mt. Vernon and beyond. For example, you've no doubt seen the signs and the beautiful architecture of The Walters Art Museum just a couple of blocks away. If you haven't been there lately or you've never been, it's always the perfect time for a visit. Founded in 1934, the museum's collection was amassed to a great extent by William Thompson Walters (1819-1894) and his son Henry Walters (1848-1931). The collection of over 22,000 works and the building were then bequeathed to the city of Baltimore, for the benefit of the public. The collection, first known as the Walters Art Gallery, includes masterworks of ancient Egypt, Greek sculpture and Roman sarcophagi, medieval ivories, illuminated manuscripts, Renaissance bronzes, Old Master and 19th-century paintings, Chinese ceramics and bronzes, Art Deco jewelry, and ancient Near East, Mesopotamian, or ancient Middle East items. Now, you and your family can take full advantage of the great offerings by the museum. With free art activities, exciting festivals, camps and fun for all ages, The Walters offers a variety of extraordinary programs where you can make innovative art, enjoy live performances, play dress up or tour the museum with a kid-friendly Family Guide designed to foster discovery. Between the expansive permanent and traveling exhibitions, you'll always find something new (or more likely, ancient) to spark your interest. If you need to take a break and refresh, grab a bite at Cafe Q at the Walters or check out the Museum Shop. General admission to the Walters is FREE, though some special exhibitions are paid, ticketed events. The museum is open Wednesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm and open late on Thursday until 9pm.
